The 20s and 30s were the golden age of poster design, a result of the Art Deco movement's preference for elongated typeface, surrealist imagery and hyper-saturated colouring. The Los Angeles Public Library has a great archive of vintage travel posters, from the local (Santa Fe to Seattle) to the far flung, like Japan and Denmark. Discovering these forgotten travel posters is like stepping back in time to a world where travel truly was an adventure, and advertising was an art form.

ART | Philographics

Philographics merges the world of philosophy with beautiful design and is the creation of graphic designer Genis Carreras. Originally started as a kickstarter campaign, it explains big ideas with simple, striking shapes and colours.

FINALISM -The assertion that any event is defined by a pre-set final outcome, and that all events leading up to that outcome are shaped by it.

ABSOLUTISM - The position that within a particular school of thought, all different perspectives are either absolutely true or absolutely false

HEDONISM - The ethical position that pleasure is the ultimate and greatest good, and should be the central aim of all decisions made.

RELATIVISM - The assertion that no belief can be said to have absolute truth, having value only within a certain contact or frame of reference

The 95 designs and can be purchased either as a book  or as individual prints.

BENAH LOVES | A-Poster-A-Day

New York based graphic designer and illustrator, Alex Proba recently committed to a new daily routine to with quite beautiful results. Her clever little idea: every day before the day ends, she would create a poster in less than 30 minutes. To the designer, this process has acted like a diary, a visual trigger of the day in which it was created.

Proba studied Spatial and Graphic Design in Hamburg, and she has also studied Furniture and Product Design in the Netherlands. And now, she currently spends her days as Art Director of Kickstarter, the online phenomenon that is funding thousands of creative projects every year.

This personal creative task of Proba’s has grown into the A-Poster-A-Day project, and it is attracting a lot of like-minded people, inspiring others to embark upon their own creative endeavors. and Proba has ambitions of turning the first 365 days worth of posters into a book. It is sure to be a colourful, quirky, and invigoratingly refined edition… and not a bad way to celebrate a year in the life!
