BENAH LOVES | To Do lists

We're very busy preparing for the exclusive launch of "Pale Ryder", our film collaboration with director Ben Briand. There seems to be a million things to do - from liaising with the photographer to getting a sound check from The Preachers, who will be performing live at the party. Check back here next week for all the pictures from the night!

JUST IN | Ryder Sandals

Just in - the Ryder sandals in all their summer-y glory. Look at these guys! Clockwise from top left : black, navy, ivory and tan. We haven't stopped wearing them since they came in - with just a brief pause over the weekend due to all this grey weather Sydney's been having. Bring on the Summer sun! With our Classic Canvas Tote bag and a loose white shirt we have the perfect outfit for lazy warm-weather weekends. Sandals are our favourite kind of footwear. They're so easy-going; the essence of Summer distilled into a shoe. What are you going to wear sandals with this Summer?

Don't forget to enter our competition, where you can win a pair of the Ivory sandals (along with plenty other Benah goodies and a year's subscription to the Travel Almanac)!

BENAH LOVES | Caroline Issa

We know what it's like when you fall in love with an accessory. You wear it once, you wear it twice, you wear it three times in a row until suddenly you're reaching for it without even thinking and you're wearing it with everything, even when it doesn't go, because you just can't part with it. We think that Caroline Issa is going through the same thing, she was seen three days in a row during Milan Fashion Week wearing her pistachio mini kodi suede bag with gold chain. It was one of our favourites from this season and we're not surprised that she wore it so much in Milan - it's a gelato-coloured confection of a bag that just screams Summer. We think Caroline has the best style - classic with a modern edge - and still can't quite believe that she loves our bag. We think it suits her perfectly, a balancing point for her quirky prints and touches of colour, all topped off with a bright red lip. Seeing the little kodi all over style.com, grazia it and cafe mode has been incredible. Wow. We really are speechless. Thanks Caroline for loving and wearing our bag. We think you look fantastic.

We've sold out of the pistachio Kodi, but our good friends over at Mychameleon still have some. The it-colour for Summer!

BENAH LOVES | Pale Ryder

We are really excited - and so proud! - to share with you the teaser trailer for our campaign film. It was shot by (our favourite person) Ben Briand and features Isabella of The Preachers and actor Sam Smith discussing destiny and fate. Our current season collection is called "Pale Ryder" and was heavily influenced by the style and aesthetic of The Preachers and their song "Pale Rider", which plays throughout this trailer. There is a beautiful, quite awesome free-spirit feeling about them, of bare feet and un-brushed hair and fringed suede. Pale Ryder became a meditation on these ideas of our pasts, our presents, our futures, of where we came from and where we are going, of control, of forward motion. We worked around ideas of fate and destiny in the design process, and later in collaboration with Ben while making this film. What is the driving force of our lives? Is there a grand plan, or are we the masters of our destinies? We're going to be launching the full video next week, but for now enjoy the teaser trailer. Stay tuned to the blog for more information about our collaboration!

BENAH LOVES | Head scarves

We love a good head scarf.  Especially for Summer. And we can't get over how many different versions of our favourite accessory there were dominating the catwalks during New York fashion week. Little 1960s twists at Marc Jacobs, leather kercheif looks at Alexander Wang (too hip to handle, as per usual), Pirate-esque bohemia at Nicholas K and glamorous Daisy Buchanan beaded numbers at Ralph Lauren. But our favourite look by far were the turban-style wraps at Karen Walker. The scarves were co-ordinated with the outfits (imagine that! match your scarf to your printed pants!) and wrapped around the models tousled up-dos and affixed at the front with knots, tucks and ties. The result was totally retro - in a good way! - and perfect for summer. We love the idea of a scarf-turban, big sunglasses and a high sun. Even better if there are little whisps of hair poking out. Below are some photos taken of the Karen Walker show by our friend Yimmy Yayo who has been working with Oyster Magazine during New York Fashion Week. They are so beautiful and capture those perfect backstage moments where a bevvy of hair-stylists, make up artists, dressers and consultants work together to get it all picture perfect and runway ready. It's such a frenzy, but it's nice to know that out of chaos can come something truly wonderful. Something to remember during the ridiculous early-morning wardrobe crises that seem to afflict even the best of us...

BENAH LOVES | Tales of Endearment

Natalie Joos is a casting director extraordinaire, celebrated blogger over at tales of endearment and a general style queen. She has a quirky look and isn't afraid to experiment with colour, patterns and tricky trends in a way that is optimistic and upbeat. We love her, because we think fashion should ultimately, essentially and at the end of the day be a bit of fun, too. That's why we were so excited when we saw Natalie wearing the beautiful electric blue canvas and tan leather mini Kodi bag during New York fashion week. With her trademark insouciant eye Natalie paired her Benah bag with a summery stripey midi dress - the length of the season - and wooden clogs. The look was so fresh and, on this hot Spring day, has us dreaming of the French riviera and bronzed limbs and an azure blue sea. Unfortunately we've sold out of the electric blue and tan canvas Kodi bags but we still have other colours left in our shop.

We hope Natalie loves her bag because we love it on her!

the sale

Everyone loves a good sale. It's the thrill of something new, the excitement of nabbing a bargain, and then the shallow yet irrefutable joy you get when you crow about it to your friends. What of it? Here at Benah we like the simple things. We think you do too, which is why we saw so many of you at the sale on Friday and over the weekend. The surprise hits of the day were the sample scarves - the Trinity, Spectrum, Optic and Eclipse - which were a favourite of everyone who passed through. There were a few sample kodi cuffs that were snatched up pretty fast, as were the olive green kodi bags from last season. The new season Pale Ryder collection was popular as well! It must the hint of summer in the air with everyone dreaming of spending long days at the beach with their Classic Canvas totes licking a Bubble O Bill (anyone remember those?). We had a great time hosting this sale and can't wait to do it again. Leave a comment and tell us what you picked up!

Our picks of the sale - part 2

We promised you bags, and here they are. This is just a small taste of the great range across all our different collections that you will find in the sale.

First up - the Stevie bucket bag. We've got these in Olive green (pictured) and black, and they will be going for $180, down from $560. The perfect casual weekend bag, the Stevie dresses up its slouchy style with tonnes of brushed gold hardware and buttery-soft leather. Try and imagine Summer without it!

The Taipan shoulder bag in bordeaux will be $100, original price $490. We've also got these in grey, and we love the mix of suede and leather. Small frame bags are perfect for now, and this will look fantastic with the darker colour palette of this season. Burgundy is hot right now!

Finally - the Lena shopper in black and tan leather. This is the very last one of the Lena leather shoppers so you'll have to get in quick! Total luxury - a fully leather exterior with a canvas lining. We've recently rediscovered our one and have been enjoying its cavernous interior ever since.

Tomorrow morning the sale kicks off, we'd love to see you at our studio from 12 onwards. See you then!

JUST IN | Lola clutch

New into the studio - the Lola clutch. This one is sure to be a sell-out and is fast becoming the hero of the collection. These clutches are so practical - not only do they have multiple internal pockets and a zip pouch, they also have an external section on the back perfect for stashing everything you need to hand quickly. We've even been using ours as a travel wallet! We're going to be getting these guys onto our shop soon, so don't worry. For now, let us know which colour is your favourite. We're leaning towards the pistachio, but then you just can't get by basic black...

The Department Store!

When we were in New Zealand recently we had the chance to spy the Benah 'Pale Ryder' display at The Department Store. What a spread! We love how the amazing visual merchandisers at this incredible store (read how much we love it here) have shown the wild colour spectrum of the collection. Everything from pistachio to dark blue, poppy red to tan. If you're in New Zealand make sure you pop by to check it out. There are plenty of things to see and try for yourself too, we can see Nico bags, Alex iPad cases, Kodi mini chain bags, and a lone Lena tote. What can you see? (And what do you want??)

Incu!

To celebrate our new stockist Incu we decorated the windows of their Galleries Victoria store with two of our favourite scarves - the Karma Scarf in Sunset and the White Fortune Scarf in Sunrise. It was so much fun to do and we're very excited to be stocked in one of Sydney's coolest boutiques.

things we love in september

Every month we're going to share a few things that are making us happy right now. Our creative director Brenda has picked her favourites for September; from glitter to the fast approaching summer to cups (and cups, and cups) of tea.

1. My levis denim jacket from Ebay - Nothing is as satisfying as finding that perfect denim piece, preferably 2nd hand and from the 90’s. The wash, the colour and worn bleached edges. It has to be just right, it has to feel just right. Its funny that I have just repurchased the same outfit I was wearing when I was 15, just minus the attitude.

2. Glitter – I am a magpie and am drawn to shiny, glittery things. I always have been, and probably always will be. But right now Miu Miu has made it acceptable to say it out loud. There's something about glitter that just raises the spirits of everyone who sees it.

3. The thought of summer - I know, I know. It's only September 6. We've still got a little way to go. But oh those blue skies, that bright sun, that blanket of heat! It's coming. And I am so excited.

4. Pink in all shades - I am not a girly girl, nor am I really a tomboy. I think a lot of people would say I am a girly girl because of my long hair and the fact that I look very much like a girl. But, I am very low maintenance and never really wear any makeup apart from mascara or the odd bright lip. (I really want to master the cat eye, but thinking about trying to apply it five minutes before I have to run out of the house is really not the answer) But right now I am mad on pink, all shades, all textures in all things. Like the Acne shopping bags - that salmon pink is so perfect. It's pretty without being saccharine, and very, very cool.

5. The Department Store – This retail experience just makes you want to lay down some serious cash! I saw things there in my recent trip that I had seen a dozen times before and never really wanted. But this place puts everything in a different light, makes items seem more cool, more appealing and converts everything into a need rather than a want. All shopping should be this good.

6. Lanchoo Tea – I am a serious tea drinker. No bag for me, ever. I can just taste that paper, cardboard taste a mile off. Everything must go into the cup in the correct order. I have a special cup, china, and a special Teapot, glass, and I only ever use one brand of soy milk, bonsoy and one brand of tea, Lanchoo. I am not a tea snob, because even though I am very particular about things. Lanchoo is quite possibly the most inexpensive leaf tea you can buy. And I love it! So much that there has to be at least 4 cartons in the house at one time. Tea has very real restorative power. It's the perfect balm for melancholy and the best accompaniment for friendship.

we love Minato's flickr stream filled with the most beautiful, quiet and still images of food and drink.
